## The 3D eraser

The eraser works similarly to the brush tool, but instead of coloring, it unclassifies points within the brush area. The eraser tool will not erase a locked class.

You can activate the eraser by clicking the erase button in the left side toolbar or using the shortcut `n`.

### Quick-erase

Sometimes you might be in the middle of classifying points and don't want to deactivate the selected class. In this case, we recommend activating the quick-eraser.

Press `alt` while the drawing tool is active, this will activate the eraser temporarily. In other words, once you let go of the shortcut you will return to the drawing mode again.

When erasing 2D lines and 2D curves a new object will be created for each line segment that lies outside of the erase polygon. If the line or curve is a part of a [Geometry collection](docId\:tTqlpetOp63Czrwp3vn48) the new objects will be added to the same geometry collection.
