This tool aligns a [3D line](docId:7INL_rq6tOYb7ytadaUwB) or [3D lane](docId\:PlcyW4tUhjmoVrnmnj3jt) to the ground surface. It adds temporary sample points along the line, aligns them to the ground, and removes any that are not needed to represent the elevation profile. All original nodes are kept.

## When to use the tool

Use Align Line to Ground when the line has too few nodes to capture elevation changes (e.g., after drawing in bird's eye view). It will add nodes where needed to follow the ground profile.
