## Drawing tool

This geometry shape is drawn using **the** **3D lane tool**. It is mainly used to mark road markings. What differentiate it from [3D lines](docId:7INL_rq6tOYb7ytadaUwB) is that you can adjust the line's width, in other words set the left and right boundaries.

### Drawing process

**Set width**

::::WorkflowBlock
:::WorkflowBlockItem
Select a class
:::

:::WorkflowBlockItem
Click at either the leftmost or rightmost edge of the line

A red indication should appear
:::

:::WorkflowBlockItem
Click at the opposite edge

This should create a lane marking shape

**Place points**

::::WorkflowBlock
:::WorkflowBlockItem
Move along the lane markings and place points where you want to have control points.

The points will be placed at the lowest point in the point cloud at that location.
:::

:::WorkflowBlockItem
Continue placing points until you feel done with the object.

## Tranformation controls

### Adjust

Use the 3D [Transformation controls](docId\:AI1c20I3hoU_BEXm8fFMX) to adjust the placement of the line point. To change the entire line, press `shift` before moving the controls.

### Extend the lane

You can extend a lane from the start or end with keyboard shortcuts. Press `0` to extend the line from the end or `shift+0` to extend the lane from the beginning.

## Reverse direction

You can reverse the line direction by clicking on the 3D lane with the right mouse button and selecting "Reverse direction." See [Direction indicator](docId\:vg0RqVtpdKretT4oSVWCH) for how to view lane direction indicators.

You can add a custom shortcut to reverse the direction of the selected 3D lane. See [The keybindings window](docId\:ZeOhmSOo_kfy-qZQnMNY2) for how to add a custom keybinding.

## Edge controls

You can enable the lane edge controls in the action bar. These controls lets you move the control nodes to the left and right edge of the 3D lane geometry.

![Enable the edge controls in the actionbar](https://api.archbee.com/api/optimize/wLEz_RbWP6nIMpY-prjlm/BY-Cy2ZsRBcgJrM4FB5lF_image.png)

You can bind a shortcut that lets you cycle between controlling the left, right and center of the 3D lane. [Align 3D nodes to ground](docId\:E27ypfHIdmMW_NZydSyki) will be affected by the edge controls and only align the selected edge. If the center is selected both left and right will assume the same value.
